Kajabi vs GoHighLevel: Which One Is Actually Right for Your Business?
If you’re a coach, course creator, or service provider trying to figure out which platform to run your business on, chances are these two names keep coming up: Kajabi and GoHighLevel.
Both call themselves “all-in-one.” Both have passionate fans. And both promise to simplify your business. So which one is actually the right fit?
I’ve spent years building inside both platforms. I’ve migrated clients from Kajabi to GoHighLevel, and I’ve helped people evaluate whether switching even makes sense for them. So this isn’t a spec sheet comparison - it’s a practical, honest breakdown based on what I actually see in the real world.

What Kajabi Does Well
Let’s start with Kajabi, because it deserves credit where it’s due. If your business is primarily about selling online courses or memberships, Kajabi is a solid platform. It was built for that world and it does it well.
Course delivery is polished. The student experience inside Kajabi looks clean and professional. You can build out modules, drip content, and create a genuinely premium-feeling course without needing any tech skills.
It’s beginner-friendly. Kajabi has a simpler learning curve for someone who just wants to get a course up and selling. The templates are decent, the interface is intuitive, and you can go from zero to launched fairly quickly.
Email marketing is built in. You can send broadcasts, build sequences, and segment your list without needing a separate tool. It’s not the most advanced email system out there, but it covers the basics.
Where Kajabi Starts to Fall Short
Here’s where things get tricky. Kajabi works beautifully if your business fits neatly into the “course creator” box. But the moment your business grows beyond that - or was never just about courses in the first place - you start hitting walls.
No proper CRM. Kajabi tracks contacts and purchases, but it’s not a real CRM. You can’t manage a pipeline, track a client journey, or get the kind of visibility you need when you’re running a service-based business alongside your courses.
No calendar or booking system. If you offer discovery calls, coaching sessions, or any kind of appointment-based service, you’ll need Calendly or Acuity on top of Kajabi. That’s another subscription and another tool that doesn’t fully integrate.
Limited automation. Kajabi’s automations cover the basics - tag someone when they buy, trigger an email sequence - but they’re nowhere near as flexible as what GoHighLevel offers. If you want sophisticated workflows that respond to client behaviour in real time, you’ll outgrow Kajabi fast.
The price adds up. Kajabi’s basic plan starts around $149/month, and that’s before you add the other tools you’ll inevitably need. By the time you’ve bolted on a booking tool, a CRM, and possibly a more advanced funnel builder, you could be spending $300-$500 a month.
What GoHighLevel Brings to the Table
GoHighLevel was originally built for marketing agencies, but over the past few years it’s become one of the most powerful all-in-one platforms for any service-based business. And when I say all-in-one, I mean it.
A real CRM. Contacts, pipelines, tags, segments, client tracking, task management - it’s all there. You can see a contact’s full journey: when they opted in, what emails they’ve opened, what they’ve purchased, when they last booked a call. In one place.
Built-in calendar and bookings. No need for Calendly. You can set up booking pages, sync with Google Calendar, send automated reminders, and manage your availability - all inside the same platform your website and CRM live in.
Powerful automations and workflows. This is where GoHighLevel really shines. You can build multi-step workflows that trigger based on virtually anything - a form submission, a purchase, an abandoned cart, a missed call. The level of automation you can set up is on another level compared to Kajabi.
Websites, funnels, emails, payments, and more. Everything you’d use Kajabi for - landing pages, email marketing, checkout pages - GoHighLevel also does. Plus reputation management, invoicing, SMS, forms, surveys, and membership areas.
Significantly lower cost. A full GoHighLevel setup replaces most of the tools you’re currently paying for separately. And if you use a platform like the JLM Growth System (which is built on GoHighLevel), you’re getting all of this plus onboarding, templates, training, and Marketing Studio for a fraction of what Kajabi alone costs.
I go deeper into what consolidation actually looks like day-to-day in What Actually Happens When You Put Everything in One Platform.
Where GoHighLevel Is Honest-to-Goodness Harder
I’m not going to pretend GoHighLevel is perfect. If I’m being fair, here’s where it’s trickier:
The learning curve is steeper. GoHighLevel can do a lot, which means there’s more to learn. If you’re not tech-confident, the sheer number of features can feel overwhelming at first. This is exactly why I created the JLM Growth System - to give you the power of GoHighLevel without having to figure it all out yourself.
Course hosting isn’t its strongest feature. GoHighLevel does have membership and course areas, and they’re improving all the time. But if courses are your only product and student experience is your top priority, Kajabi’s course delivery is still a step ahead in terms of polish.
It’s built for growth, not just getting started. GoHighLevel is most valuable when your business has multiple moving parts - services, funnels, email sequences, bookings, a CRM. If you’re in the very early stages and just need to sell one course, you might not need all this power yet.
So Which One Should You Choose?
Here’s how I’d think about it:
Kajabi might be right for you if your business is 100% courses and memberships, you don’t need a CRM or booking system, you want a simpler interface and don’t mind paying more for it, and you’re not planning to offer services or more complex funnels.
GoHighLevel is probably the better fit if you offer services alongside (or instead of) courses, you need a CRM and booking system, you want powerful automations that work without Zapier, you’re paying for multiple tools and want to consolidate, or you want a platform that grows with you as your business evolves.
For most of the coaches, course creators, and service providers I work with, GoHighLevel wins - not because it’s flashier, but because it does more without needing all the extras. And when it’s set up properly, it’s just as easy to use day-to-day as Kajabi.
What Makes the JLM Growth System Different
If you’re leaning towards GoHighLevel but the learning curve worries you, that’s exactly the gap I built the JLM Growth System to fill. You get all the power of GoHighLevel, but it comes pre-built with templates, a full tutorial library, weekly office hours, and Marketing Studio - your built-in AI marketing partner that creates your content strategy and daily tasks for you.
You don’t have to learn GoHighLevel from scratch. You don’t have to build everything yourself. You get a system that’s ready to go, with me in your corner to help you use it.
